When you begin to notice cracks in the walls of your home, it's a signal worth heeding. These cracks often indicate underlying issues with your property's structural integrity.
While some wall cracks may seem purely cosmetic, it's wise to have a professional evaluate the extent of damage to determine whether a more serious issue lurks beneath the surface. Neglecting the repair of foundation cracks and structural problems can jeopardize your property's stability, potentially putting it at risk due to weakened and shifting foundations.
Lateral support for walls typically relies on load-bearing masonry, internal partitions, fixed wall plates, and floor and ceiling joists. Numerous issues can impact external wall structures, but it's when ongoing movement is detected that the greatest concern arises. Such discoveries can be distressing for both potential buyers and sellers who were previously unaware of these structural challenges.
Cracks In Walls
Hairline cracks that appear above doors and windows are often a result of seasonal shifts, which are common, especially in new builds. However, properties, regardless of age, can experience movement and transformation over time. If you're uncertain whether you're dealing with a benign hairline crack or one caused by foundation movement, consider these indicators during a thorough property inspection:
A sagging roof Cracks in brickwork (diagonal along the brickwork and vertical, with snapped bricks) Gaps emerging around doors and windows Uneven flooring External walls showing signs of bowing or leaning
These telltale signs can help you differentiate between harmless surface cracks and those that may indicate more significant structural issues like foundation movement and subsidence. For further insights and information on wall cracks and their potential causes, please don't hesitate to reach out to our experienced team. Absolutely flawless service from start to finish. Contacted Daniel on the 5th September and the survey was arranged, booked and sent back to us by the 16th September.
Daniel spent time advising on the best survey for the house we were looking at, and recommended level 2 which turned out to be more than enough for our needs.
The report was detailed, easy to follow and gave us all the info we needed and requested at the start of the process.
Could not recommend HomeScan enough for their quick turnaround time, informative replies and fantastic service.
Thanks Daniel! :)

Are you planning to buy a house? Stop and speak to Dan first. You'll be glad you did. I contacted Dan a few months before I had a confirmed house. He couldn't have been nicer and more patient with my zillion queries. Eventually, when time came for a survey, Dan was prompt and super efficient. I had a very detailed report within 5 days with lots of photos and he spoke to me at length explaining everything I needed to know about the house. During the conveyancing process, I needed to contact him a few times for clarifications or insights about subsidence, etc. Dan was always available -- including while on a holiday cruise! This was my first attempt at buying a house and I couldn't have asked for a better surveyor.

I came across Daniel on YouTube while looking for a surveyor, and he has been a Godsend. In the process of buying my first home, firstly he saved me from buying a money pit. I then found my dream home and he carried out a level 3 survey and I can honestly say his service was flawless. He has also renewed my faith in humanity to know that there are still honest people out there who put their heart and soul into their work, who care and have your best interests at heart in what has been quite a stressful journey trying to buy a home. For anyone buying a house, I strongly advise getting a survey and getting Daniel to carry it out. Thanks Daniel.

Daniel was exceptionally helpful, guiding us on which survey was sufficient, explaining the process and even jumping on a call after he’d sent the survey to answer our questions. Thanks Daniel!

The service we received from start to finish was first class, the report was much more detailed than we expected and Dan always responded promptly with any queries we had on the searches received from our solicitor. We would not hesitate to recommend the services of HomeScan

I booked a level 2 survey with Daniel and was pleasantly surprised with the professional and thoughtful process in which my case was handled. Communication with Daniel was fast, efficient and knowledge up to the day of the survey, where he confirmed the inspection and sent the report which was provided within 2 days. The report itself has been very comprehensive and contained plenty of photos outlining any concerns and issues found. Highly recommend Daniel as a surveyor and will be instructing him again for future properties.

We asked Daniel from Homescan to carry out a survey recently, he was great from start to finish, the process went very smoothly and he fully explained the stages and timeline to us.
The report that he produced was both comprehensive and written so that we understood each section. It was an all round great service from Daniel and we thoroughly recommend him.
Thank you.

We had a brilliant experience with HomeScan! From start to finish it was a very smooth process. Dan explained how the survey would work and then they were booked in a couple of days later (we couldn't believe how quick it was). The report was very thorough- including lots of photos and clear recommendations. Dan also has been quick to answer any questions since. We definitely recommend!

Daniel did structural (level 3)survey for us on two separate occasions. Every time he was quick to respond to our emails and to contact vendors/agents (which is, sadly not an industry standard) He provided a comprehensive report addressing our pre-inspection concerns together with his professional opinion about the property. He advised on the best course of action regarding repairs/upgrades/maintenance.
Without exaggeration, he was the most professional out of all the people involved in the purchase of the property and an example of what "value for money" should mean in the industry.

Absolutely brilliant. I first learnt of Dan through the QandA he did on the Moving Home With Charlie channel where his honest integrity shone through. Dan was very responsive and easy to communicate with right from the very beginning and through out the entire process. The level 2 survey was brilliantly comprehensive and detailed with easy to follow descriptions and photos for reference. It’s been a pleasure to have Dan carry out this aspect of my moving process. I wish him all the very best and I highly recommend his services.
